Birth should not be a medical experience. Our mission is to eradicate maternal health disparities in the Black community by providing all encompassing services to provide for a better birth outcome and ensure a mother’s voice and choice are being heard at all times. Birthing & Babies aims to be a catalyst in the Black community by ensuring a collaboration among child birth education service providers, lactation consultants, mid-wives, and other birth workers and mothers in order to tackle the maternal health disparities for Black women. We provide doula services which have been proven to improve the birth outcomes for Black women.

Birthing & Babies’ goal is to de-medicalized birth by ensuring mothers have a voice and choice during labor by reclaiming their bodies and birth rites. We provide birth support by accompanying the mother through her labor, attending to her physical and emotional needs, while helping her make informed decisions. Birthing & Babies’ realm of birth support services assist mothers in advocating for their own wishes and needs through the stages of childbirth. Our goal is to encourage the power within the mother at a most vulnerable time by providing labor support during her birth journey. Through compassion, empathy, and respect we strive to assist the mother in advocating for herself throughout pregnancy in order to achieve the birth she so desires by taking back her ancestral birthright.

We strongly believe in the term “informed consent.” Care providers often perform procedures on mother’s without asking permission and explaining the full benefits and risks. We believe when mothers are informed they will make the best decision for themselves and their baby. We encourage mothers to trust their bodies and understand that this is their birth and their body. We enjoy educating mothers on common pregnancy interventions, as well as topics of interest to them during pregnancy so that they may feel educated and informed going into their birthing space.

Fathers are important to the birthing experience and the doula’s role is never to replace the father, but merely to enhance the birthing experience by providing additional support and helping both mother, father, and the family overall.

Trust in your body and its innate ability to bring forth life.
